Hello! My name is Anastasiia Vestel, and I am from Kyiv, Ukraine. I obtained my BA in Translation from English and Spanish at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and I worked as a freelance translator for about three years before applying to the EM-TTI programme. While at university, I realized that to achieve my dream of becoming a professional translator, I needed a broader array of knowledge of modern technology in translation and interpreting. I knew that I needed to keep up with the times and supplement the knowledge I received through my university studies with hands-on skills in using modern technology. Therefore, when I found out about the EM-TTI programme, I thought that this was a unique opportunity to attain the necessary competence in translation technology. I believe obtaining this degree is critical for achieving my professional goals since possessing technological skills is essential for everyone living in our ever-changing modern world, and translators are no exception. I will spend my first year at Ghent University, Belgium, and the second at the University of Malaga, Spain.

My name is Dayana Abuin Rios and I have come to Malaga directly from Havana, Cuba. I hold a Computer Science degree, which has given me background knowledge for coding. I also hold a BA in Foreign Languages: English and German from the University of Havana, a B2 French diploma from the Alliance Française de La Havanne, and two certificates on literary studies from the University of Oxford. After working as Translator and Interpreter for several years for the City Historian Office of Havana and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, I am glad to have finally found a Master's degree that combines both areas of study, technologies and languages. I have a special interest in text simplification, but I am also attracted to semantic role labelling and automatic translation of idioms and multi-word expressions in literary texts. I am eager to learn from top experts in both fields and I hope to be contributing to their development in the near future.

Hey there! My name is Veridiana and I'm from Uberlândia, Brazil. I have been a freelance translator since 2012, but for the past two years, I worked in-house for a major company in the food/agribusiness sector, translating the English/Brazilian Portuguese combination. In 2015, I decided to fully dedicate my time to translation and went to university to pursue my second undergraduate degree in Translation and Interpreting, at the Federal University of Uberlândia. During this time, I studied institutional communications and their translations in the light of systemic functional linguistics using R. I am also very interested in terminology and CAT tools. I chose the EM TTI program because machine translation and technologies are no longer an option in our field, but a common reality. And those who are not proficient in this will certainly fall behind, facing a difficult path in their careers. I hope to return to the work market after my master's with improved capabilities, working for companies with translation technologies.

Hi everyone! My name is Foteini. I obtained my BA in Interpreting from the Ionian University. Having worked as a freelance translator and interpreter helped me get familiar with translation tools and research them on my own. After my freelance experience, I attended a year-long traineeship in the European Commission, which showed me what a difference technology can make for an organisation of such magnitude that depends on language services in order to function. Most recently, I worked as a Localisation Project Manager for translation, dubbing, subtitling, and fully integrated localisation projects. My experience so far, working with software that makes language services more efficient, has made me eager to learn what really goes into technology for language services, as well as to explore new technological solutions in the field of localisation. I hope the following two years in the EM TTI will be the first step towards that goal!

As a Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study alum, I graduated from high school in Arizona, where I went on to study English translation and interpreting at Hacettepe University. During my BA, I did an exchange year at Valladolid University, studying Spanish translation and interpreting. In addition, I learned German at Humboldt-Institut in Konstanz and volunteered in Trento, Italy, teaching English. In addition to my academic background, I worked as a freelance translator, a project manager and lexicographer at a multilingual dictionary, and a localization specialist at an IT company. Overall, in my career, I have worked with over twenty-five language pairs. Last year, I decided to continue my higher education at Yale, did a non-degree master's, and worked as a Fulbright Turkish language assistant. This year, I am doing my master’s in the cross-disciplinary EMTTI program at Ghent University. So far, I love all my courses, and cannot wait to finish EMTTI and apply what I have learned to my future career.

Hello everyone! My name is Dariya and I am from Kazakstan, Astana. The main principle I adhere to is to keep developing and challenging myself to make the world a better place. Therefore, for me, it is an axiom that translators should never stop perfecting their skills. My BA and MA degrees were in Linguistics and Translation studies. Being bilingual, I had a great opportunity to research the topics of multilingualism and pragmalinguistics and explore their implications on effective communication. In addition to Russian and Kazakh, I have studied English since early childhood. The Spanish language was a cultural reset. I had an opportunity to delve into it during my Erasmus+ exchange semester at the University of Cadiz, Spain, and during the exchange course with Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla, Mexico. After graduation, I worked as a translator and interpreter at a Kazakhstani-based drone and UAV-producing company. During my professional journey, I gained a passion for technical translation and felt the need to expand my knowledge of this field. As a student of the EM TTI program, I want to focus on the exploration of language modelling tools employed in computational linguistics and their contribution to the quality of machine translation. The other interest of mine is to gain knowledge of programming languages and their use in the field of linguistical research. I am honoured and excited for the chance to study at the New Bulgarian University for my first year and at the University of Málaga for my second one!

Hello, I am Egemen Ipek. I have always loved solving problems. Before joining this program, I have a BA in translation and interpreting and I was in the localization industry and solving language problems. My job got a lot easier when big MT providers adopted NMT and the potential for a fully automated process was undeniable. The technical education I had a chance to get in EM TTI broadened my horizons and now I am changing my focus from MT to a different NLP application, emotion detection from text.

Hi! My name is Alberto Cuevas and I am a Mexican translator. My BA is in Translation and when I saw the description of this Master's program, I was absolutely in love! Technologies are the future, if not already the present, of pretty much every current field of study we can think of. Incorporating the use of Translation technologies into the future of my profession is just the wisest thing to do in these times of unprecedented technological advance and promises. The idea of also belonging to the "Erasmus" community was also one of the main factors that caught my attention when researching for my Master's. Knowing that I'd be a part of one of the greatest student communities in the whole world just sat right at home with me! That combined with the cultural experiences that are waiting for me to be fully experienced made this decision to start my Master's here just a no brainer. Knowledge, culture, technology and languages. What best combo can you think of?

Hello! I am Berke. I am a translator, a technology enthusiast, thus a secret admirer of translation technologies. As a translator, the foremost duties that I am bearing are subtitling, transcreation works, medical text renderings, and sworn translation services. I have been working in the aforementioned fields for more than three –or maybe unknowingly– four years. When it comes to being a technology enthusiast, I am pretty much interested in all the fields from the most basic ones to the most currents that are of the utmost importance in terms of most of the global research that has been carried out after the humane realization of AI. Therefore, I wanted to adjoint these two intercorrelated fields to each other, and as a consequence, here I am at the EM-TTI program as a Cohort IV student.

Hello! My name is Dmytro and I'm from Ukraine. After graduation from National Aerospace University in Kharkiv, I started working at the International Relations Office of my University, where I got engaged in interpreting for international delegations. That helped me deepen my knowledge in engineering spheres as I accompanied our foreign colleagues to various departments and laboratories. Concurrently, I was working at the Applied Linguistics department, perfecting my academic and pedagogical skills. Eventually, I realized that my interests lie in translation, and I wanted to pursue that career, so I went into freelance translation. That helped me expand my knowledge in various industries, strengthen my editing and proofreading skills, and get acquainted with the translation community. The pandemic made me reevaluate my priorities and understand that I needed to master new tools to excel in translation. Therefore, I attended various online translation conferences, which helped me grasp the idea of the current trends in the industry and realize that machine translation and CAT tools are here to facilitate the translators rather than substitute them. That brought me to the EM-TTI program which combines the academic approach and hands-on experience I can benefit from. Many of the offered courses are tech-oriented, which I find extremely useful, and I am eager to learn about the latest trends in machine translation, machine learning, and post-editing. I am convinced that studying within the framework of the program offered by the consortium is an outstanding opportunity to master new skills, and participation therein will give me a chance to become more competitive on the market and grow as a professional and a researcher.

Hello everyone! My name is Amal and I am from Tetouan, Morocco. I hold a state engineer diploma in IT from the National Institute of Statistic and Applied Economy in Rabat. In 2016, I moved to Japan for my first IT Masters’ Degree in Kobe Institute of Computing and graduated in 2018. In the same year, I was offered a job in a start-up in Osaka where I worked for 1 year as a full-stack developer and communication assistant. I have a big interest in foreign languages, different cultures, and technology. I also worked for two years as a French and English teacher, and had a part time job teaching some programming languages to university students in Morocco. These experiences opened my eyes to what I want to specialize in, which is somewhere between computer science and human languages. EM TTI seems to me the best option to get more knowledge from both fields and to broaden my network. Also, it offers me the possibility of traveling and studying in different universities of the European Union
