Hello everybody! My full name is Dinara Akmurzina and I am from Kostanay, Kazakhstan. My majors are foreign languages and international relations. I have BA degree in Education from Kostanay State Pedagogical Institute and MA degree in International Relations from a joint program by Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and INALCO, Université Sorbonne Paris Cité. The last two and half years I have been working as a translator and interpreter for the leading uranium mining company in Kazakhstan. Throughout all my academic and professional experience, I have been facing the need to master technology skills and that is why the EM TTI programme is the best opportunity for me to excel both in technology and interpreting skills. My research interests are Automatic Speech Recognition, STT and TTS recognition, Translation Memory, Statistical and Neural Machine Learning.

Hi everyone! My name is Artur Bondarenco and I am from the Republic of Moldova. I have a BA degree in Modern and Classical languages, having studied Romanian, English and German languages. I worked in translation and localization in various Moldovan companies and volunteered as a translator and interpreter for non-profit organizations. Throughout the years I saw how technological advances within the CAT tools industry reshaped the role of the modern translator, and while many people are fearful of such changes, I feel that I’d rather join the process then be left behind. My dream is to learn and eventually contribute to this progress.
My first academic year will be at the Universidad of Málaga (Spain), and the second at the University of Wolverhampton (UK). My hobbies include reading, travelling and playing guitar.

Maria Guzenko received her undergraduate degree in Linguistics from Moscow State University and her Master's degree in Translation from Kent State University, where her coursework included computer-assisted translation tools, localization, and project management. She went on to work as a project manager in a translation company and, for the past six years, as an independent Russian translator certified by the American Translators Association. It is her hope that the EM TTI degree will allow her to design and implement new technological solutions for language processing.

My name is Alfiya Khabibullina, and I am Cohort 3 EM-TTI student. I am an honors graduate of Kazan Federal University (Russia), a specialist in Arabic and English philology. After my graduation in 2014, I started working as a translator, and in 2017 I became a teacher of the Arabic language, literature, and translation in my Alma Mater. I have published several papers about online communication in Arabic, and also co-authored other articles dealing with the Arabic language and culture. My main interests are NLP, translation, and foreign languages.
EM-TTI is a great opportunity to meet the leading experts and representatives of the industry. For me it is a great chance to become a good researcher in the field, and to develop professionally as translator and translation teacher.

Having received a bachelor's degree in Translation studies and master's degree in Applied linguistics in Yerevan State University, I look forward to deepening my knowledge in a programme that has spectacularly combined both areas of my specialization. I hope to improve my technical skills and specialize in the field of NLP and Machine tranlsation. WIth the knowledge gained in EMTTI we will mark revolutionary at the same time accessible milestones in the sphere.

Hello people! I am Shaifali and I come from a big, beautiful, and very diverse country, India.
I feel so privileged to have this opportunity of becoming part of the prestigious EMTTI programme. I come from a language background having done a Bachelor's and a Master's in French language. My specialization is in Translation and Interpretation. As a translator, I have always wondered about how all these translation tools, that have become so indispensable to the translation industry, are developed. This curiosity is what has led me to the field of Computational Linguistics. I have always tried to learn a little bit of programming with small courses here and there, but after entering this EMTTI programme, I know I'll have the chance to really sharpen my programming skills and put them into use for developing a Natural Language Processing tool (hopefully! fingers crossed). I look forward to this exciting academic journey, with an open mind and some coffee.

Hi! My name is Aida Kostikova and I come from Ufa, a city located on the western slopes of the Ural Mountains. I did my BA in Linguistics (Kazan Federal University), with a focus on Translation Studies, and I have a MA in Languages and Intercultural Comminucations in Politics and Diplomacy from the Lomonosov Moscow State University, where my fields of research included discourse studies, cognitive linguistics and, more specifically, conceptology. During my university years, I started cooperating with several translation companies in Russia, where I was responsible for creating a translation memory database and integration of CAT-tools into the operational procedures of the companies. This experience gave the completely new dimension to the field and pointed out the perspectives of the future development of linguistics. Ever since, the rapid changes occurring in the sphere of translation and interpreting have been a matter of my interest and concern. Translation processes and technologies change dramatically, and as a young professional in the area, I felt the need to keep up with its development. That’s why I was so happy to learn about EM TTI: in my opinion, it is a wonderful opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to become a modern specialist, who will be able to face the challenges of innovative future. I am already enjoying my studies at New Bulgarian University and I hope that my experience at Ghent University next year will be just as amazing.

I obtained my BA in English Linguistics and Literature in 2017 from Tishreen university in Latakia, Syria. And as the top graduate of my class, I started working as a translator and lecturer assistant in many faculties and departments at Tishreen University including the Department of Translation, Informatics Engineering faculty and the English Department. As a person who has been deeply fascinated and influenced by the role of technology in all aspects of life, and as a passionate translator I wanted to unfold the world of Technology in Translation and Interpreting through the EM TTI programme. One of the greatest steps I have made in my academic and professional life is being part of the EM TTI course as it is provides me with all the academic and practical knowledge in the fields of Computational Linguistics, Translation Technology and NLP. I am interested in many research areas in the field such as neural machine translation and deep learning.

Hello, everyone! My name is Glauber Rosa and I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As for my academic background, I have a BA in English and Literature and an English Teaching Diploma from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, a BA in Applied Foreign Languages from the Federal Center for Technological Education of Rio de Janeiro, and a graduate diploma in Conference Interpreting from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. As of 2015, I have been working as a public translator and interpreter at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. After many years of experience working with CAT tools, I decided it was time to delve deeper into the technological part of translation, which seems to be the future of our profession. Having an interest in terminology and glossaries, machine translation, and simultaneous interpreting, the EMTTI program was the perfect fit for me. I am sure this program will make me a more qualified professional, and I am really looking forward to my experience at Ghent University and at the University of Malaga.

My name is Kamshat and I am from Kazakhstan, Almaty. My first Bachelors degree was in Translation Studies and I have worked at several international companies in Kazakhstan as a technical translator and interpreter for almost 8 years. While working full-time I obtained my second Bachelors Degree in Information Systems and had taken couple of short programming courses online on Coursera and Udemy. I have already been working with CAT tools for quite a long time and became really interested in NLP, NMT, Computational Linguistics and programming in general. Therefore I decided to apply for EM TTI programme, which best suited my (future) professional/career interests. I would say it is not just a programme, but a really good opportunity to hone my skills and learn something new, especially in the areas mentioned above. And one of the exciting parts of the programme is that I will have a chance to do a one-month internship and gain a hands on experience. I also believe that AI will change the future and Translation/Interpretation industry is not an exception, and this is something that will also be covered during my studies. So far, I am really happy that I made this decision and I am enjoying my studies here at Gent University, and hope it will be the same at Wolverhampton University next year.

My name is Hitalo Santos and I am from Recife, a city in the northeast of Brazil. I hold a BA in Translation Studies from the Federal University of Pernambuco, and a Minor diploma of Arts in Simultaneous Interpretation from the Catholic University of São Paulo. The translation field has always been a passion of mine, especially the audiovisual industry, where I worked as a translator/subtitler for over 8 years, adapting movies and TV shows from English to Brazilian Portuguese. As of late, the great strides made by translation technologies have fascinated me, with their ever-improving and more natural renditions of texts. All of this, combined with my unabating curiosity and keenness to explore new areas, made the EMTTI program the perfect choice for me. I cannot wait to apply all the knowledge that the program will provide, contributing even more to my professional development and helping me to expand my areas of expertise, not to mention the great opportunity to meet researchers and industry experts, thus enlarging my professional network. My research interests are Translation Memory, Neural Machine Learning, and Subtitling and Interpretation technologies. Before being granted the EMTTI scholarship, I lived and worked in Portugal as an in-house translator for 4 years, localizing texts for social network platforms and technology companies. My first academic year will be at the Universidad of Málaga (Spain), and the second at the University of Wolverhampton (UK). In addition to studying and practicing translation, my other hobbies include going to the beach, and traveling to different countries : )

My ambition is to excel professionally, and EM TTI is the perfect programme for me. My name is Natalia Sugrobova and I come from a small Siberian town called Nazarovo that is situated in the Krasnoyarsk region. Having obtained my degree in Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting, I worked as a teacher and a freelance translator for several years. Later on, I got a job in a big pharmaceutical company and familiarized myself with a large number of tools that help translators and make their lives easier. My goal now is to delve into technological advances in the sphere and become a better professional. And I believe this program is the best chance to make it true.

Hello, everyone! I am Dana Tugambekova from Kazakhstan. I obtained my BA in Translation Studies and MA in Russian language and literature from Karaganda State University (Kazakhstan). I worked as a teacher and a translator at the websites of History of Kazakhstan and the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.
I feel fortunate and thrilled to be the part of the EM TTI programme, and I am looking forward to gain better knowledge in NLP and machine translation. I believe that the EM TTI will help me to gain invaluable experience in the University of Malaga (Spain) and Ghent University (Belgium) achieve my career goals.

Hello everyone! My name is Cecilia and I am from Mexico. Growing up in a border city with the United States, my passion for languages developed from a very young age. I learned French, English and Italian in my teenage years so I decided to pursue a BA in Foreign Languages and Linguistics at LaSalle University. During my undergraduate studies, I started learning German and Mandarin Chinese, having the opportunity to study a year in Beijing Union University in Beijing, China where I also worked as a Spanish tutor. During my studies and upon graduating, I worked as a language teacher in different universities in Mexico and as a freelance translator until I decided to pursue a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. My research interest involves Natural Language Processing, Machine Translation and Translation memory Tools. I am fascinated to learn more about how technology is having an impact on the way we communicate and have access to more information in other languages. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the EMTTI programme as I will be learning from the top experts in the area, I will spend my first year in Wolverhampton, UK and second year in Ghent, Belgium.
